of plus/minus 5 %.

Bad Neustadt a.d. Saale/Frankfurt am Main, 28 April 2010

At its annual Results Press Conference held today in Frankfurt am Main, the

Board of Management of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG will confirm the trend figures

already published in February. 'We once again demonstrated in 2009 that the

Company's high quality of medical care and restructuring experience make it

a reliable partner for patients, employees as well as the State', said

Wolfgang Pföhler, chairman of the Board of Management of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.

He stated that the healthcare network had been expanded, and that with the

capital increase the basis for new growth had been created. Pföhler will

also inform that the Board member Ralf Stähler will leave the Company for

personal reasons as of 30 April.

Results for financial year 2009

In 2009, a total of 1.8 million patients were treated in the Group's

facilities. During the same period, revenues rose to 2.3 billion euros. Net

consolidated profit increased as forecast by 7.4 % to 131.7 million euros.

Compared with last year, EBITDA was raised by 8.1 % to 284.0 million euros

and EBIT by 5.8 % to 181.0 million euros. Operating cash flow saw an

increase of 11.5 % to 238.5 million euros.

The 9.2% rise in patient treatments was 'proof of the great trust in the

quality of our work'. With growth in revenues of 8.9% and in earnings of

7.4 % in 2009, the Group moreover demonstrated the sustainability of its

growth course - also in times of crisis. Pföhler gives assurance that this

'reliable' course would also be 'steadfastly' maintained in the new

financial year.

'With the August 2009 capital increase in a gross volume of roughly 460

million euros, we have created the ideal financial basis for expanding our

healthcare network', explained Dr. Erik Hamann, CFO of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.

Already at the end of 2009 with the takeover of the MEDIGREIF Group, the

Company expanded its healthcare network by 5 acute hospitals and 2 medical

care centres (MVZs) in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania.

On 9 June 2010, the Board of Management and the Supervisory Board will

propose a dividend of EUR 0.30 per ordinary non-par share with dividend

entitlement (DE 0007042301; 138,208,000 non-par shares). Without the

capital increase - based on the previous volume of shares in circulation -

an amount of 0.40 euros per share would thus have been distributed

(previous year: 0.35 euros).

Jobs in 2009

As at 31 December 2009, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG employed a total of 36,882 people

in ten federal states. With the acquisition of the MEDIGREIF Group, 1,421

employees were added to the Group's hospital network. At our long-standing

facilities, 1,549 additional employees were hired. These notably include

doctors and nurses. In many regions, then, the hospitals are among the

largest employers. In north and central Hesse, for example, Gießen and

Marburg University Hospital ranks second among private companies by number

of employees.

Q1 2010 results

The Management is pleased with the start the Company has made into

financial year 2010. 'We have got off to a solid start into the new year',

emphasises Wolfgang Pföhler.

Already in the first three months, the Group treated 509,793 patients (+

12.7 %). Revenues rose to EUR 624.2 million (+ 11.6 %). Net consolidated

profit rose 11.7% to reach EUR 34.3 million.

EBITDA climbed to EUR 73.1 million (+ 9.1 %). EBIT stood at EUR 46.8

million, which translates into a rise of 9.4% versus the previous year's

level. As at 31 March 2010, the Group had 36,915 employees.

'The good first-quarter figures provide an outstanding basis for reliably

reaching our forecast for full-year 2010', explains Dr. Erik Hamann, the

Company's CFO.

Outlook for 2010:

'High-quality medical care at reasonable costs:

strengthening co-operation models'

Board of Management chairman Pföhler emphasises that the high quality of

medical care was directly dependent on high investment capacity. 'In 2009

we invested some 332.5 million euros, thus creating the basis today for the

healthcare we will provide tomorrow. In 2011, for example, the Gießen and

Marburg University Hospital is not only getting ready to move into

centralised, modern new buildings but also to start up operations of the

new particle therapy facility. 'We invest not only in building structures

but also in innovative medical care for people', Pföhler said. With the

particle therapy centre (PTC), Marburg was witnessing the creation of the

world's first centre making it possible to use protons and carbon ions with

great precision in the effective treatment of cancer diseases at a

completely new level. 'In Marburg we are thus establishing a leading

radiation oncology site of international standing, and in the process are

also directly and indirectly creating about 200 jobs within the region'.

Pföhler emphasises that public funding was becoming scarcer for healthcare

as well. For this reason it was important to tap into further efficiency

and rationalisation reserves, since this was the only way to ensure medical

care at a high level also in future. This also meant enabling a competition

for the best solutions in healthcare delivery. This was the only way to

free innovation. Already two years ago the RHÖN-KLINIKUM Group, with its

interfacility and cross-sector healthcare delivery approach, had developed

a model for combining medical quality and economic efficiency for patients.

RHÖN-KLINIKUM's CEO emphasises that the Company in many respects was in

good shape and highly innovative: 'Thanks to telemedicine we are able to

bring good medical care to the regions and to the patients there, who

otherwise might not at all be able to find such care at that level given

the shortage of doctors', Pföhler explaines. With our web-based electronic

patient file, the Company had created a bridge of communication for

doctors, regardless of whether they work in a hospital, an MVZ or a

doctor's practice.

'Good medical care and economic efficiency go together. This is something

we have proven in 2009. And that is our commitment also in 2010', Pföhler

concludes.

RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is one of the largest healthcare providers in Germany. Its

corporate objective is high-quality medical care for everyone. Currently,

our Group counts 53 hospitals at 42 sites as well as 29 medical care

centres (MVZs) throughout Germany. We employ more than 36,000 persons. In

financial year 2009, roughly 1.8 million patients were treated in the

Group's facilities.
